Resident User Stories
  • As a resident, I can check out games and movies, so that I’m not bored in my dorm room.
  • As a resident, I can check out a vacuum, so my room doesn't look like a mess.
  • As a resident, I want to return my items within a timely manner, so I am not charged.
  • As a resident, I would like to know what the closet has and if it’s available, so that I can check it out when I want it.
  • As a resident, I want to know when a checked out item will be returned so that I don’t have to constantly waste time walking downstairs to check with the front desk.
  • As a resident, I want a faster checkout process, so I can save time in my busy life.
  • As a resident, I want to know which items the desk owns, so that I know what is available throughout the year.
  • As a resident, I want to be reminded when my equipment is due, so that I don’t get charged a late fee.

Desk Assistant/Employee User Stories
  • As a DA, I want to check out items quickly, so I can get back to other tasks.
  • As a DA, I want to make sure the residents return the items, so other students can use them.
  • As a DA, I can fill out charge slips, so other students are held responsible for not returning items.
  • As a DA, I do not want students to leave items unattended at the front desk, so that items are not lost/stolen/misplaced.
  • As a DA, I want to know which items are available/unavailable, so that when students come to the front desk, I don’t have to waste time checking the equipment closet.
  • As a DA, I want students to be able to check for themselves if items are available, so they don’t waste time walking downstairs.

Parent User Stories
  • As a parent of a resident, I want to see what equipment is offered in the dorm for my child, so that I know their needs are being met/ can purchase items accordingly if not.  
  • As a parent of a resident, I want equipment available to clean my child’s room when I visit, so they don’t live in a big mess.
  • As a parent of resident, I would like to see what my child has checked out, so that I know what they did during spare time.
  • As a parent, I don’t want to pay for items that my child returned on time.
  • As a parent, I need to know how much my child will be charged for late/unreturned/broken equipment, so that I can make sure to pay their bursars account.
  • As a parent, I need to know the quality of items available to my child, so that I can purchase better items if needed (pots, pans).
Hall Council User Stories
  • As member of Hall Council, I want to check out equipment, so our meetings are not boring.
  • As member of Hall Council, I want to see if equipment has been checked out, so I know what items are more popular.
  • As a member of Hall Council I want to know what items the desk doesn't have so that these items are purchased to satisfy the current residents.
  • As a member of Hall Council, I want to know what items are missing or broken so that I can make sure those items are replaced in a timely manner.
  • As a member of Hall Council, I want to know what to purchase for the dorm so our money isn't wasted.
  • As a member of Hall Council, I want the equipment records to be accurate, so that we can make purchasing decisions.
  • As a member of Hall Council, I would like to know how many times each item is checked out, so that I can allocate future funds accordingly.
  • As a member of Hall Council, I would like to know which items are used most often, so that I can ensure there are enough to meet the demand of students.

  1. Lots of user stories. It might be better to say As a "user role", I WANT to, rather than I can or I would like to..

    A couple of general comments. Stick to one goal and one value (e.g., games and movies) so they aren't bored. Boredom was not mentioned in the user story, so you can't infer they were bored.

    Are broken items handled differently than missing items? You may want to consider user stories for each.

    These are quite good. Be careful about inferring values, if they were not mentioned, and look for user stories that consider more than one "goal" or more than one "value".
